photographer, osteo-archaeologist, world traveler, and, of course, alpinist. A long-time climber and experienced blogger (IceBella; ArchaeoAdventures), Genevieve has witnessed first-hand the explosive growth in women-driven climbing sports. She also noticed the lack of established publications, both on- and off- line, providing female climbers with timely information on rapidly evolving, innovative new gear, targeted specifically to the needs of female alpinists. She saw women alpinists making inspirational achievements, climbing hard routes and peaks, pushing the edge of what can be climbed; but more importantly, making a big difference in other women’s lives.

And much of these inspiring and worthy stories were not being told – whether it was the pro-athlete putting up a tough new route in China or the mom of 5 who took up ice climbing and now leads WI 5. Frustrated by the scattered, inadequate dissemination of women’s climbing information and lack of promoting of female climbers and climbing, Genevieve set out to create a single, comprehensive magazine dedicated to all facets of female alpinism – and Alpine Athena was born.

An avid skier since pre-school, Genevieve has since grown into an accomplished rock and ice climber, instructor, and mountaineer. She has summited many of the available mountains and peaks near her native Seattle, Washington, climbed frozen waterfalls in the Washington Cascades, in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, in Ouray, Colorado and as far away as South Korea. To explore the world beyond her native Northwest, Genevieve has lived in such diverse places as Dublin, Ireland and Cairo, Egypt. And she is the proud owner of more turquoise climbing gear than most women own in heels.
